Scented Candles Make the Mood

All it takes is a match and a scented candle to completely change the mood of a room.

The fragrance of a scented candle can inspire memory, poetry, insights, and relaxation, depending on the fragrance. Many people love scented candles for this reason. Relaxing in a fragrant room can be like taking a vacation or going on a magical time-traveling adventure to a distant land. Others enjoy scented candles because the fragrances bring back memories. Considering the skyrocketing sales of scented candles, people are having strong positive reactions.

Candles come in many different styles, from votive candles that can be purchased cheaply at many local stores to more expensive decorative pillar candles with delicate scents and complex designs. All types of candles can be purchased at low prices online.

Candle wax can ordinarily hold only about half an ounce of fragrance oils per pound of wax. Triple-scented candles, however, hold about an ounce more, the maximum amount possible. If you want an intense fragrance experience, you might want to try a triple-scented candle.

Burning Scented Candles

High-quality scented candles are not cheap. To get the most for your money, you’ll want to maximize the life of your candle. Begin by following the directions on how long to burn the candle the first time. Generally, you burn a candle one hour for each inch of its diameter. For example, if the top of the candle measures four inches across, you would burn it for a minimum of four hours before extinguishing it. This allows the melting pool to extend across the entire surface of the candle, which has two effects: the maximum amount of scent is diffused into the air and the candle is consumed evenly. You don’t end up with a hole burned down through a column of wax.

It is also important to maintain the proper wick length, which is usually about 1/4 of an inch. Too short a wick is often extinguished by the wax, while too long a wick can produce too large a flame and uneven burning.

Keep your candle out of drafts. A draft can cause one side of the candle to melt and run down the side.
