Burning Scented Candles

To maximize the life of your scented candles, simply follow these instructions on how long to burn the candle the first time.

Scented candles are no different from any other item you purchase, you want the
most for your money. Therefore, to maximize the life of your scented candles, simply
follow these instructions on how long to burn the candle the first time. The general
rule is that you burn a candle for one hour per inch of its diameter, for instance,
a candle that is 4 inches in diameter you would burn for four hours. This will
cause the creation of the correct size of "melting pool" that will offer
the maximum amount of scent while consuming the entire candle instead of creating
a hole down the center.

Maintaining a proper wick length is also important. The proper length is approximately
1/4 inch. A too short wick could be covered by the wax and extinguished, while
a wick that is too long will produce a large flame causing the candle to burn unevenly
and creating soot. In addition, try to not place candles in or near drafts for
this will cause the candle to burn to one side, melting though the wax.
